This is a fairly great kamado for the price. It was relatively simple and straightforward to build. The overall quality of the unit is good and I'm generally happy with its performance.
Usage: The grill has great performance. It's very well insulated and I was able to run a 12 hour cook on only the initial charge of charcoal. The top and bottom vents work well to adjust the temperature and it's quite responsive to those changes. I was able to keep a steady ~225F for the whole cook.
Build: Oh boy. Maybe I got a dud, but I'm not sure. The quality control is *not* good. There is bubbling paint on the inner firebox. Many scuffs on the outside of the kamado. The thermometer, while accurate (according to my digital thermometer) will not willingly adjust the dial unless you flick/tap on the glass to get it to move. The legs butt into the ash pan and prevent it from sitting flush. You need to bend the unit side to side in order to have the pan clear the legs and sit properly. Without it, there is a large gap and the clips don't snap close properly. I've tried re-adjusting the legs, but due to how they are designed, it is impossible to fix. The top grate was supplied with a completely bent attachment point. This was welded and painted and sent out of the factory like this. It's difficult to get it on the grates, and when you do it shifts them all around. Several edges of the ash pan and firebox had chips in the paint right out of the box.
I want to like this, and I do, but it's too much of a hassle to return (plus, I don't have the box or packaging anymore.) I'll keep it, but based on the quality control, I won't be surprised if it doesn't last more than a handful of years.
I would give it more than three stars if the quality issues were non-existent. The performance is great, just everything else... not so much.
